Real Food Win.
A mobile app that swaps ultra-processed food for the real thing. Name a processed product and get the real-food version with the recipe, an ingredient comparison and the cost per serving. Scan a barcode in the shop, read a recipe from a photo, or build one from what's already in your kitchen. Built in React Native for iOS and Android.

The founder, a PhD and entrepreneur, had built a web app to solve a real health problem: helping people swap processed food for real-food alternatives. Now he wanted a mobile app to put it in people's pockets, but he couldn't build it himself. He needed an engineer who could take it from a web-only product to the App Store and Google Play.
Audit before building
Before writing any app code, I went through the existing web app's codebase. The backend wasn't secure enough and wasn't built to scale, so building a mobile app on top of it would have carried those problems straight into the app.
Moved to Railway and secured the backend
I migrated the platform from Replit to Railway and hardened the backend, so the web app and the new mobile app could share one reliable, secure foundation.
A React Native app for iOS and Android
Built with React Native, Expo and TypeScript. Name a processed food and get the real-food swap with the recipe, an ingredient comparison and the cost per serving. Scan a barcode in the shop, read a recipe from a photo, or build one from what's already in your kitchen. Paid membership runs through RevenueCat.
Published on both stores
I submitted and published the app on the App Store and Google Play, so it went from a web-only product to a mobile app people can download on iPhone and Android.
